ചരിത്രം വളച്ചൊടിക്കുമ്പോൾ

ചരിത്രം ചമയ്ക്കുക എന്നത് വളരെ പാടുള്ള ഒരു കാര്യമാണ്. ചരിത്രം വിശ്വസനീയമായ തരത്തിൽ വളച്ചൊടിക്കുക എന്നത് അതിനേക്കാൾ പാടുള്ള കാര്യമാണ്. ആ ദുഷ്കരമായ കർമ്മം വളരെ അനായാസേന, വിജയകരമായി, വർഷങ്ങളായി ചെയ്തു വരുന്ന ഒരു സാഹിത്യകാരൻ ആണ് ശ്രീ എം.ടി. വാസുദേവൻ നായർ. സാഹിത്യ രചനയിലും അറിവിലും കഴിവിലും എം.ടിയെ വെല്ലു വിളിക്കാനോ ഒപ്പം നിൽക്കാനോ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഇന്നൊരു മനുഷ്യൻ ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പില്ല. അത് സത്യം തന്നെ. എങ്കിലും ചരിത്ര പരമായ കൃതികൾ ചമയ്ക്കുമ്പോൾ അറിഞ്ഞൊ അറിയാതെയോ എം.ടി പലപ്പോഴും യാതഥാർഥ്യം വളച്ചൊടിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഒരു തരത്തിൽ ചിന്തിച്ചാൽ അദ്ദെഹത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗത്തും ന്യായമുണ്ട്. മുൻപേ തന്നെ രചിക്കപ്പെട്ട കാവ്യങ്ങളോ പുരാണ കഥകളോ അതേ പോലെ വീണ്ടും ഒരാവർത്തി കൂടി എഴുതുന്നതിൽ അർത്ഥമില്ല. അതിനാലാവണം അദ്ദെഹം അത്തരം പുരാണങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു "എം.ടി വേർഷൻ" എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടാവുന്ന സൃഷ്ടികൾ രചിക്കുന്നത്. കുഴപ്പം എന്താണെന്ന് വച്ചാൽ പുസ്തകങ്ങളോട് അകലം പാലിക്കുന്ന ഇന്നത്തെ തലമുറ യാതഥാർത്ഥ്യത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഡീവിയേറ്റ് ചെയ്ത എം.ടി കൃതികളുടെ ചലച്ചിത്ര ആവിഷ്കാരം കണ്ട്, അതാണ് സത്യം എന്ന് തെറ്റിദ്ധരിക്കപ്പെടാൻ സാദ്ധ്യത ഉണ്ട്. കണ്മുന്നിൽ കാണുന്ന സിനിമ വെറും ഭാവനയാണ് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ കലാസൃഷ്ടി ആണ് എന്ന്  വിസ്മരിക്കുന്ന തലമുറ ആണ് ഇന്നുള്ളത്. സിനിമയിൽ കാണുന്നതാണ് സത്യം എന്ന്  കരുതി അത് ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക് പകർത്തുന്ന ഒരു ജനതയുടെ മുൻപിൽ വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കപ്പെട്ട അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വളച്ചൊടിക്കപ്പെട്ട ചരിത്രം വെള്ളിത്തിരയിൽ എത്തിക്കുമ്പോൾ പ്രത്യക്ഷത്തിൽ അല്ലെങ്കിലും പരോക്ഷമായെങ്കിലും കുറച്ച് പേരേ മനഃപൂർവ്വം തെറ്റിദ്ധരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിൽ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ തെറ്റായ അറിവ് നൽകുന്നതിൽ കഥാകാരന് വളരെ വലിയ പങ്കുണ്ട് .

Is justice a mirage for common man?

It is painfully disheartening to see that justice is being denied for the common man. With the recent verdict of Honorable (?) Supreme Court regarding Soumya murder case, a common man would be forced to believe that the judiciary is more keen on demanding specific evidences and witnesses rather than serving justice to the affected or the victim. The main thing which SC asked was where is the proof that the accused Govindachami had "really pushed " Soumya into the track from t...he train. When the court agrees upon the fact that she was raped and found Govindachamy guilty, they are expecting eye witnesses or more specific evidences to prove that he pushed her into the track and killed her with a rock. How much ridiculous and absurd is this? Does the highly educated and final decision makers of the world's largest democratic country lack the basic feature in human kind called, Common Sense?

Incidents like this will certainly destroy public's faith in judiciary and it is then the public will take law into their arms. It does not take much time for us, the public, to beat down the culprit to death while he is being transported or when ever he is exposed to the crowd. But if the mob is not doing so amidst being convinced that he is guilty, then it is only because of the respect to judiciary, which is on a toss now. Out of the 7 years imprisonment which SC has imposed, culprit has already served 5.5 years. That leaves just another 1.5 years of free food (read biriyani), shelter and rest from the taxpayer's money. After that he is free to commit the next crime. Let that not happen. If Govindachamy is let free after brutally raping and killing a helpless girl, then it would be setting a wrong example to the next generation and also a pat on the back for the criminals in and out of the jail. What would have been the case, if such an incident occurred in UAE or USA? The culprits would have been shot dead or hanged within 24 hours. In US, civilians have the freedom to shoot an intruder/criminal if there is a threat to their lives. Shooting someone on behalf of self defense is not a crime. Whenever there is a threat to our existence or for life, they can take up the law. Same thing has happened to Soumya. She was thrown out of the train, dragged into bushes, brutally raped and murdered. But the court is demanding on specific evidence to prove that she was pushed out of the train and not jumped out on her own. Even if she has jumped out on her own for her safety, still murder case should be charged against the culprit, as he was a threat to her existence.

Day before it was Nirbhaya, yesterday it was Soumya and today it was Jisha. What about tomorrow. When it obvious and evident like daylight that it is Govindachamy, the one n only reason behind the death of Soumya, clinging on to baseless arguments and demanding for clear cut proof by ignoring circumstantial evidences and other supporting facts is truly brutal, highly unethical and moreover a mockery at the womenhood who is being victimized every single day by some perverts. With Supreme Court has passed their judgement, i sincerely hope our PM, Narendra Modi will look into this issue and make sure justice is served for the deserved. Our law says, "Even 1000 culprits are spared, not even a single innocent should be punished.", But we, citizens of India, who still belive in law and order, would want the culprits to be punished too.

മലയാളത്തിലെ ക്ലാസിക്കുകൾ - 2 - കാപാലിക

1973 ൽ ക്രോസ്ബെല്റ്റ് മണി നിർമ്മാണവും സംവിധാനവും ചെയ്തു ഷീല മുഖ്യ വേഷത്തിൽ അഭിനയിച്ച ക്ലാസിക് ചിത്രമാണ് "കാപാലിക". എൻ . എൻ . പിള്ളയുടെ ഇതേ പേരിലുള്ള  സൂപ്പര് ഹിറ്റ് നാടകത്തിന്റെ ദൃശ്യാവിഷ്കാരമായിരുന്നു കാപാലിക എന്ന സിനിമ. വളരെയധികം കാലിക പ്രസക്തിയുള്ളതും സമൂഹത്തിലെ പല മേഖലയിൽ പെട്ട മനുഷ്യരുടെ കഥകളും പച്ചയായി തന്നെ തുറന്നു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു ഈ ചിത്രത്തിൽ. ഒരേ ദിവസം പല ആളുകള്ക്ക് സംഭിവിക്കുന്ന കഥകളാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ ന്യൂ ജനറേഷൻ സിനിമകളുടെ ആഖ്യാന രീതി എന്ന നിലയ്ക്ക് 1973 ൽ റിലീസ് ആയ മലയാളത്തിലെ ആദ്യ ന്യൂ ജനറേഷൻ ചിത്രമാണ് കാപാലിക എന്ന് നിസ്സംശയം പറയാം. കാരണം, ബോംബേ നഗരത്തിലെ അതി പ്രശസ്തയും സമ്പന്നയുമായ ഒരു വേശ്യയുടെ ബംഗ്ലാവിൽ ഒരു രാത്രി വന്നു പോകുന്ന പല തരത്തിൽ ഉള്ള ആളുകളുടെ കഥയാണ്‌  ഈ ചിത്രം

മലയാളത്തിലെ ക്ലാസിക്കുകൾ – 1 – യക്ഷി

കുറച്ച് അധികം നാളുകളായി എന്തെങ്കിലും ഒക്കെ ഒന്നെഴുതിയിട്ട് . ആശയ ദാരിദ്ര്യം കൊണ്ടല്ല ആത്മാർഥമായ മടിയും സമയക്കുറവും കൊണ്ട് മാത്രമാണ്. തുടർച്ചയായി  എല്ലാ മാസവും എന്തെങ്കിലും ഒന്ന് നിർബന്ധമായും  എഴുതണം എന്ന തീരുമാനത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഒരു  സീരീസ് തുടങ്ങാം എന്നാലോചിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരു തികഞ്ഞ സിനിമാ പ്രേമി ആയതു കൊണ്ടും മലയാളത്തിലെ ഒട്ടു മിക്ക സിനിമകളും കുത്തി ഇരുന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ള വ്യക്തി എന്ന നിലയ്ക്കും മലയാളത്തിലെ മനോഹരങ്ങളായ സിനിമകളെ കുറിച്ച് എഴുതാം എന്ന് തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ഈ പംക്തിയിൽ പരാമർശിക്കുന്ന  സിനിമകൾ പലതും നിങ്ങൾ ഒരുപാട് തവണ കണ്ടതായിരിക്കും. എങ്കിലും കാണാത്തവർക്ക് ഒരു അറിയിപ്പും കണ്ടവർക്ക്  വീണ്ടും ഒരിക്കൽ കൂടി ആ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ കാണാൻ ഉള്ള പ്രേരണയും ഉണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നതാണ്  ലക്‌ഷ്യം. കൂടുതൽ പറഞ്ഞു കാട് കയറി കൂട് കൂട്ടുന്നില്ല. വായനക്കാരന്റെ അന്തരാളങ്ങളിലെക്ക്   നേരിട്ടു കടക്കുക്കയാണ് നോവലിസ്റ്റ് .

മലയാറ്റൂർ രാമകൃഷ്ണന്റെ "യക്ഷി" എന്ന പേരിലുള്ള നോവൽ അതേ പേരിൽ പ്രഗൽഭനായ സംവിധായകാൻ കെ.എസ്  സേതുമാധവൻ  ദ്രിശ്യവത്കരിക്കുന്നത്  1968 ൽ  ആണ്. സത്യൻ , ശാരദ, അടൂർ  ഭാസി, സുകുമാരി, ഗോവിന്ദൻകുട്ടി, ഉഷാ കുമാരി, ബഹദൂർ  തുടങ്ങിയവർ  അഭിനയിച്ച ഈ ചിത്രത്തിൽ എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ട അഭിനയ മികവാണ്  സത്യനും  ശാരദയും കാഴ്ച വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. സത്യനും ശാരദയും പരസ്പരം മത്സരിച്ച്  അഭിനയിച്ചപ്പോൾ ആരുടെ പക്ഷമാണ് ശരി ആര് പറയുന്നതാണ് സത്യം എന്ന് പ്രേക്ഷകനും ഒരു നിമിഷം ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിൽ ആകുന്നുണ്ട്. ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തില്ലെങ്കിൽ പാളി പോകാവുന്ന കഥയെ തികച്ചും വിശ്വസനീയമായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞതാണ് സത്യന്റെയും ശാരദയുടെയും കഴിവും സംവിധായകാൻ കെ.എസ്  സേതുമാധവന്റെ മിടുക്കും.

Yennai Arindhaal - Review

Yennai Arindhaal has been the most awaited film in the tamil industry after "I" for two reasons. One is that Gautam Menon is coming up once again with a Cop story and another is that this time, he is joining hands with Ajith Kumar who was initially supposed to do the lead role in "Kaakka Kaakka".  First things first and a one liner about the movie before we get into the review - "Expectations won't be shattered, if you don't expect anything at the first place." This time Gautam Menon has tried to deviate from the conventional way of story telling of a dare devil cop cleaning up the underworld and instead has decided to add a musical romantic touch to the action packed story.  But if you are regular viewer of Gautam Menon's movies, you might find many similarities from the past and would be forced to believe that Yennai Arindhal is a collage of his previous movies like "Kaakka Kaakka", "Vettayadu Vilayadu", "Vaaranam Aayiram" and finally "Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya"

മിസ്റ്ററി - ഒരു മസ്തിഷ്ക പ്രക്ഷാളനം

അങ്ങനെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ചിലപ്പോഴൊക്കെ ചിന്തകൾ  കാട് കയറാറുണ്ട് . ഓഫീസിൽ നിന്ന് വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങുമ്പോൾ ഇടയ്ക്കൊക്കെ പഴയ കാര്യങ്ങൾ ഓര്ത്ത് ചിരിക്കാറുണ്ട് . ഇന്നലത്തെ എന്റെ ഈ ഫ്ലാഷ്ബാക്ക് ചിന്തകൾ  എന്നെ പൊക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് പോയത് പഴയ എൻ എസ്  എസ്  സ്കൂളിന്റെ പത്താം ക്ലാസ്സിലെക്കായിരുന്നു. പഠിത്തത്തിൽ ഒഴിച്ച് ബാക്കി എല്ലാത്തിലും ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചു  നടന്ന കാലം. പണ്ടെങ്ങോ ശിപായി ലഹളയിൽ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു വടി ആയവരുടെ കഥകളെക്കാലും ഭൂമിയുടെ അടിയിൽ ഉള്ള കോറിന്റെ കട്ടിയെക്കുരിച്ചും സൌരയൂഥത്തിൽ ഒരു പണിയുമില്ലാതെ കറങ്ങി നടക്കുന്ന ഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ചും ഒന്നും വേവലാതിപ്പെടാതെ അടുത്തുള്ള അഭിനയ തീയേറ്ററിൽ അടുത്ത ആഴ്ച നരസിംഹം റിലീസ് ആകുമോ, ടിക്കറ്റ് കിട്ടുമോ, എത്ര മണിക്ക് ക്ലാസ് കട്ട് ചെയ്തു തീയേറ്ററിന്റെ മുൻപിൽ എത്തണം എന്ന് മാത്രം ചിന്തിച്ചു ടെൻഷൻ അടിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു കൂട്ടം പാവം വിദ്യാർഥികൾ. ടെസ്റ്റ്‌ പേപ്പറുകളും പരീക്ഷകളും പാഞ്ഞടുക്കുന്ന പാണ്ടി ലോറി പോലെ മുന്നിൽ  എത്തുമ്പോൾ മാത്രം "ലേബർ ഇന്ത്യക്കും സക്സസ് ലൈനിനും" വേണ്ടി പരക്കം പാഞ്ഞ ഒരു പറ്റം  പാവം കുട്ടികൾ. ഈ പാവം കുട്ടികളെ രാഹുൽ ഗാന്ധിയെ കൈയ്യിൽ  ഒത്തു കിട്ടിയ അർനാബിനെ  പോലെ ശരിയുത്തരം ഒരിക്കലും കിട്ടില്ല എന്ന തികഞ്ഞ ബോധ്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നിട്ടും  വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ  ചോദിച്ചു വീർപ്പു  മുട്ടിച്ച ചില അധ്യാപകർ . അല്ല അവര്ക്കും എന്തെങ്കിലും ഒരു എന്റ്റ്റർട്ടെയിന്മെന്റ് വേണമല്ലോ. പക്ഷെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട അദ്ധ്യാപകരെ ,  അന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ ചോദ്യം ചോദിച്ചു എണീപ്പിച്ചു നിർത്തി  ചൂരൽ  വടി കൊണ്ട് തായമ്പകയും പഞ്ചാരിയും ശിങ്കാരിയും  കൊട്ടിക്കയറിയപ്പോൾ  ഞങ്ങൾ കരയാതിരുന്നത് തെറ്റ് മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിട്ടോ വേദന എടുക്കാഞ്ഞത് കൊണ്ടോ അല്ല, ക്ലാസ്സിലെ പെണ്പിള്ളെ രുടെ  മുന്നില് അവശേഷിക്കുന്ന മാനം എങ്കിലും നഷ്ടപെടുത്താതിരിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി മാത്രമായിരുന്നു.

ഹോളി ഹെൽ - ഒരു വിശുദ്ധ വിപണന തന്ത്രം

കഴിഞ്ഞ ഒരു വാരമായി സോഷ്യൽ മീടിയക്കും കേരളത്തിലെ ചില മാധ്യമങ്ങള്ക്കും ചാകര ആയിരുന്നു. ഒരു മാതിരി പട്ടിണി കിടന്നവന് ചിക്കൻ ബിരിയാണി കിട്ടിയ പോലെ. ഗെയ്ൽ ട്രെടവലിന്റെ "ഹോളി ഹെൽ" എന്ന പുസ്തകം കേരളത്തിലെ പട്ടിണി കിടന്ന നായക്ക് ലഭിച്ച എല്ലിൻ കഷ്ണം ആയിരുന്നു എന്ന് പറയുന്നതിൽ  അതിശയോക്തി ഇല്ല. കാരണം, മാസങ്ങള്ക്ക് മുൻപേ അമേരിക്കയിലും ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയിലും  വിപണിയിൽ എത്തി യാതൊരു ചലനവും ശ്രിഷ്ട്ടി ക്കാതെ കടന്നു പോയ ഒരു പുസ്ത്തകം മാസങ്ങള്ക്ക് ശേഷം കേരളത്തിൽ മാത്രം ഒരു വിവാദമാകണമെങ്കിൽ അത് മാതാ  അമൃതാനന്ദമയി മഡത്തിനെ മനപൂരവം കരി  വാരി തേയ്ക്കാനുള്ള  ചിലരുടെ ഗൂഡ ശ്രമങ്ങൾ ആണെന്ന് ആര്ക്കും മനസ്സിലാകും. കാരണം, ഇന്ത്യയിലും പുറത്തും ആതുര സേവനത്തിന്റെ കരങ്ങൾ നീട്ടി അമൃത ആശ്രമം പടര്ന്നു പന്തലിക്കുമ്പൊൾ  അത് തടയേണ്ടത് ചില വര്ഗീയ വാദികളുടെ ആവശ്യമാണ്‌. ഈ ഒരു നീക്കത്തിന് പിന്നിൽ ,മതപരമായും വിപണനപരമായും ഒരുപാട് തന്ത്രങ്ങളുണ്ട് . അതിലേക്കു കടക്കുന്നതിനു മുന്പ് ഈ പുസ്തകം പടച്ചു വിട്ട ഗെയ്ൽ ട്രെടവില്ലിനെ കുറിച്ച് സംസാരിക്കാം.
